Dionysus, also known as Mr. D, is the Greek god of grape-harvest, wine, madness, parties, religious ecstasy, and theater. He also serves as the camp director of Camp Half-Blood, having been placed there by his father Zeus as punishment for chasing after an off-limits nymph. His Roman counterpart.

KH Gq 5 is a fairly intact tablet inscribed with the Linear B script of the Mycenean period. Made of reddish-brown clay and poorly fired, it has nearly parallel flat edges and is missing only a small piece of the right side. The tablet is in relatively good condition as most of the polish still remains on it and very minimal scratches are visible. Two lines have been inscribed very lightly with a fine stylus. The script refers to both Dionysus and Zeus, as well as a sanctuary of Zeus, and the tablet states that both gods are being given jars of honey, clearly indicating that Dionysus, whose name is transliterated as di-wo-nu-so, was already established as part of the Greek pantheon in the Bronze Age3. The joint offering certainly confirms Dionysus’ divinity but his name itself does that too, as it is largely translated as “the god of Nysa”4. Dio or Diwo can be translated as “heavenly lord” in Sanskrit as well as Hindi, and is the root of the word for “divine”, and so we see the beginning of a connection to India, well before Alexander the Great’s expedition to the east. As for Nysa, the exact location meant is debatable as with every cult of Dionysus, a mountain by that name can be found nearby, including in India5.
